VI ~ Kenya Tourism

Kenya has become a tourist attraction with the wild life and diversity in culture. The most famous tribes are the Masai and Samburu tribes because of their preserved culture. Masai's unique dress style, the way of living, and the Masai dance are famous internationally. Many of them practice nomadic pastoralism. They move from place to place in search of water and food for their large herds of cattle. Traditionally they are dressed in animal skins, but they wear red sheets wrapped around the body and loads of beaded jewelry placed around their necks and arms. Ear piercing and stretching of earlobes, wearing metal hoops on their stretched earlobes, shaving their heads, removing two middle teeth on the lower jaw, wearing sandals made of cow hide are part of Masai beauty. Masai eats cattle meat, drink their raw milk mixed with cattle blood, the skin, and hides of cattle are used for bedding, and cow dung is smeared on the walls of the Masai huts. Samburu tribe's way of life and culture are similar to that of Masai.
Kikuyu is the largest ethnic tribe in Kenya. They own large farms of tea, coffee, and other agricultural products. They are well educated and are workaholics. They also dominate the political leadership. Prof. Wangari Maathai the renowned environmentalist and Nobel peace prize winner was a Kikuyu, so were the first and third presidents. The fourth and the current president His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta is a Kikuyu. The Kalenjin tribe is sometimes referred to as Kenya's running tribe. Most of Kenya's Olympic games gold medalists are Kalenjins. Kalenjin also dominate in politics. The second president of Kenya Hon. Daniel Arap Moi is Kalenjin. So is the current Deputy President His Excellency Hon. William Ruto. The other tribes are Luhya, Luo, Kamba, Kisi, And Meru.
Kenya is famous for the wild beast migration. It is known as 'one of the seven new wonders' of the world. More than a million animals migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya during July through to October. This migration is spectacular and magical. Tourists around the world, camp around this area for months to capture the incredible journey. The migration has to cross the Mara River where the crocodiles will prey on them. The other migrators are zebras, gazelles, and elands. In Masai Mara these animals were hunted, stalked, and run down by lions and other carnivores.
