While I was waiting for the Work permit, I was informed that there was a vacancy in the Mathematics department at the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi. I sent an application on behalf of Thankamony, as she was in India with the children. She was called for an interview on the 20th of March at 6 pm. Since Thankamony was in India, I had decided to attend the interview on her behalf. When I entered the Principal Mrs. Hasham's office at the appointed time, she was perplexed as she was waiting for a lady. I explained the situation and we both laughed. She interviewed me for my wife's position, and after being satisfied with her credentials and my personal vouching, Thankamony was offered the job with effect from 17th of April. I was staggered, how things had unfolded for me, a safari to Kenya had changed my destiny. Thankamony along with the kids reached Nairobi on Good Friday, the 13th of April 1990.

The Aga Khan Academy is operated by the Aga Khan Education Services. They were in the education sector since 1918. The Aga Khan foundation in Kenya has a network of activities including health, rural development, economic development, publications, banking, and education. The Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi is the biggest hospital in east Africa. They have played a significant role in the development of modern Kenya. His Highness the Aga Khan made occasional visits to Kenya to monitor the activities of the foundation.

When the schools opened in April after Easter vacation, we all joined in our respective schools. Seany had joined in Oshwal primary School and Sherry in Oshwal nursery school. The atmosphere was different from the Nigerian schools. The school time had now become 8.00 am to 4.00 pm. While the Oshwal schools had a hundred percent Asian population, the Aga Khan Academy was cosmopolitan. Mrs. Neena Ribeiro, Head of the English department, and a Keralite graciously helped Thankamony to be comfortable in the Academy. Neena was magnanimous and considerate that she even helped us to settle in Nairobi. Mr. Ribeiro a soft spoken gentle man, was the headmaster of another school. We always enjoyed their company. Those early years in Nairobi were very formative for the kids. The schools were very competitive in both in curricular and co-curricular activities. After six months I was made the Head of the department of Physics.
